"I'm sorry," John said, he looked very confused. "Could you say that again?"
"Kathy's pregnant." Genie replied.
John glanced at his wife and then glared at the road.
"What the hell is that supposed to mean? Is this some kind of joke you two are playing on me? Trying to give me a heart attack?"
Genie sighed and looked at him.
"I just found out myself, it's as much of a shock to you as it was to me...."
"But couldn't it have waited until after the reception? I'm supposed to be a guest speaker tonight! Damn it! You knew that!" he hollered.
"Don't worry about it, I'm sure she's just late," she replied calmly.
"And what if she isn't?" he bellowed.
"Then we will. . .take care of it," she said while fingering the key chain clipped to her purse.
"Pardon?" he said looking to her briefly, then back to the road.
He could tell that she was very upset by all of this, so decided to let it rest for the moment. He glanced at her again and noted how old she had grown in such a short period of time. How would he explain why she looked so haggard to the others if they ask.
He was going to speak if front of most of the congregation that night, about family values. This news couldn't have come at a worse time. He sighed as they pulled into the parking lot.
They walked in silence to the church door, but a tall man stopped them before they can enter.
"I'm sorry, but you'll have to leave that outside," he said, indicating her key chain.
"But it's too small to hurt anyone," Genie replied defensively.
"I'm sorry ma'am, but you know that there are no blades in the house of God. . ."
