Homework: Part 1 of 4 for the final project
I can feel the rumble. I can hear the hated sound. I can even smell the whiff of putrid air.
He was sleeping again. Why did he have to fall asleep in the car? And with his mouth open? There is nothing in here to cover my ears with, or my nose for that matter. It is going to be a horrible drive.
The day outside the car however, is bright and cheery. The sky is blue, like, well like a blue sky. The clouds are small and white, like puffs of cotton balls. The sun is shining, and I would imagine that the birds are singing.
But I wouldn't know, because I'm stuck in the car with that snore!
Why did he have to fall asleep in the car! I should wake him up, I should swerve onto the shoulder where the tires make that horrible noise against the grooves in the blacktop.
No. Be calm. I'll never survive the trip if I start thinking like that. Just watch the countryside slide away. The rolling green hills are really lovely in this light. I think that there is a breeze, but it is a bit chilly outside to be able to open the widows.
Which would be great! That way I could muffle the sound of his snoring!
Calm. . . . Must have tranquility. I can do this so long as I stay calm.
Oh look, a deer. It must be awfully young, it still has its spots. I wonder where its mama is. I hope it isn't Bambi. That was a very sad movie. I prob'ly would have cried at the part where his mother got shot. . .If it hadn't been for his damn snoring! I can't believe he fell asleep watching the movie. I can't believe he fell asleep in the car! He was chattering away not ten minutes ago. Why'd he have to go and torture me like this?
Either way, we're almost there. Only a few more miles to go. And then he can fall asleep at his mother's house. Or more specifically they can all fall asleep together watching TV while I have to entertain myself in the kitchen!
Calm. I can do this.
Oh look, a hummingbird! It is keeping up with the car! They really are fast little birds. What cute markings, a bright red splotch under his beak. And a shiny blue head. How nice.
And there is the house. I guess it is time for me to take my medicine like a woman and hope that I won't kill them all.
"Did you say something?"
"No, nothing Dear!" I reply, nearly jumping out of my seat.
"Are we almost there?" he asks innocently.
"Yes, Darling. The driveway is just up ahead." I say with a smile.
"Oh. . . ." yawn, "Good." Snore. . . .
Maybe I will just slip out and enjoy the rest of this, otherwise, beautiful day. They won't notice. It seems that all him and his mom do is sleep. Wish I had known that years ago. . . .
